NOTHING ABOUT THE TASMAN SEA IS

Guaranteed

EXCEPT

IT IS WILD, UNTAMED AND A PLACE YOU WILL REMEMBER

I first visited the Tasman Peninsula in 2015 when I ran the first freediving course in Hobart in February.

Never have I experienced a more profound and fantastic freediving adventure, than the parkour into the dark clear blue ocean, spilling forth under the tallest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere.

In the trips to this magnificent place, I have seen Humpback Whales relaxing, Dolphins flying, Crayfish dotted like patchwork across rocks, and been swirled by baitballs. Not to mention, buzzed by Australian Fur Seals.

There really is nothing to guarantee about this place. It is wild. The weather and conditions may be glassy calm and amazing, or as I have seen, 6-metre swells, winds that knock you over, and ferocious. It is a destination to be revered and respected. Protected.

Those on a life quest. Those who seek a way of growing, of toiling through potential adversity, and being triumphant, even when it didn’t go to plan, this is where you want to have your adventure. It will make you want to be a steward, a protector for something much greater and more meaningful than merely a long weekend away on a freediving trip.

STEP FORWARD, TAKE YOUR LONG WEEKEND

FREEDIVING QUEST

I WILL BE BESIDE YOU

Let’s take a long weekend adventure together, freediving in the south of Tasmania, along the Tasman Peninsula.

This 3-day freediving adventure is for certified freedivers. You MUST hold a minimum PADI Freediver certification (level one or equivalent) to be a participant on the dives. The quest is limited from 4 to 6 people, so that you can enjoy your sense of wild without being trampled upon.

Three days. A long weekend guided freedive adventure in Tasmania that will leave you feeling re-modelled.

Your senses will first be alive with the thrill of a scenic boat tour, and brought back to Earth with breathwork and mindful immersion.

Connecting with local culture, we will dine together for the welcoming dinner, and for lunches.

And the ultimate plunge, two days of freediving adventures, zooming out along the coast and seeing wild places for the first time, then discovering what lay beneath them, hidden in the blue.

Behold, three days of adventure, let it be true:

  • 2-hour Wild Ocean sightseeing eco boat tour
  • Breathwork and mindfulness nature walk
  • Group welcome dinner
  • Morning breathwork and stretching session (2x)
  • Private freediving boat tour (up to 4-hours) (2x)
  • All lunches (3x)
  • Fully guided freediving excursions
  • Personalised freedive coaching (optional extra)

Accommodation is not included, to enable you to choose the most suitable type for your requirements.

Marlon is a great instructor. It is pretty interesting that the course is based more in trying to understand what you feel during apnea than in reaching a time. This makes you feel a lot more comfortable with the training and the experience.
Arlen D

I’m an experienced instructor myself…but a novice freediver. Marlon is a very experienced freediver, but more importantly a very good teacher, the two don’t always go together, but in Marlon’s case they certainly do. He’s knowledgeable, patient and walks a good line between fun and serious learning. If you are interested in learning to freedive in Melbourne, do not pass Go. Go straight to Marlon!
Dean Laffan

Director, Red Bull

As an instructor myself (and former student of Marlon’s) I also recommend Marlon Quinn! Teaches far more than just by the book. Of all the instructors I’ve met he’s definitely the best.

FREEDIVING ADVENTURE WEEKEND ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Friday

Our first encounter in the morning, is with a relaxed warm coffee or tea, where we first connect and set the full adventure in motion. Swiftly followed by an incredible scenic boat ride delivered by people who live and breathe this wild place every day. They rescue wildlife. They are modern caretakers that know better than we do. In the afternoon, you will breathe during a mindful immersion. Wandering over rare geological formations that have created rock patterns that curiously resemble as if man has made them. A quirk of nature mimicking man for a change. To welcome this quest, we shall share dinner together in the evening, before the freediving adventures begin in the morning.

DAY 2 – Saturday

Meeting early in the morning beside the bay, we begin with a breathwork and stretching session to limber the body, and relax the mind, preparing ourselves for the excursion into the wild. At 8am, the boat will leave the jetty, with our private group, and head out into the marine wilderness to further our explorations along the sea cliffs and caves. Returning at midday, we’ll exit wetsuits and dress into casual clothing for a well-earned lunch. The late afternoon and evening is free to your own arrangements, providing time for pause and reflection ahead of the new day. During this time private one-on-one breathwork coaching sessions are available.

DAY 3 – Sunday

Sunday morning delivers us in a nice easy routine, following the practices of Saturday morning’s early schedule and 8am freedive boat excursion. Harnessed with the new knowledge of Friday’s eco tour, and Saturday’s first exploration dive, this third day enables a broader perspective, space to see yourself within the world that has been new, fresh and exciting for two days. It’s an opportunity to try what wasn’t embarked upon in the days prior. A time to freshen that new perspective and awe for the adventures we love to take. To soak into the remembrances and the connection with wild nature and that of our new buddies. Returning from the boat dive at midday, we’ll change into casual clothes and enjoy our luncheon together, to share stories and to savour the learning and fun we had during our Tasmanian freediving quest. Following lunch, we’ll head off and begin the return to our homes or next destinations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS?
Why should I choose this quest?

Simply, there’s nothing like the coast of the Tasman Peninsula, even if it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, I hope you’ll enjoy two.

How long is the quest?

The adventure is 3-days long, from the beginning on the first day in the morning, to finishing after lunch on the third day.

You are welcome to arrive days before and leave days after, however this quest includes three days.

Are there any prerequisites to attend?
Prerequisites
In order to attend and complete the PADI Basic Freediver course the following prerequisites apply:

Be at least 12 years of age.
You must be able to swim confidently and use snorkelling equipment including mask, snorkel and fins
Complete the electronic forms during enrolment – Medical statement, Freediving Practices Statement of Understanding, and Risk / Liability Acceptance.

Please make contact if you are unsure about the prerequisites or if you have concerns about the items required for this programme.

What gear and equipment is needed for the ADVENTURE?

You must supply all your own freediving gear including wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, and weightbelt. If you require threaded weights for your weightbelt, please contact at least one week prior to the trip for arrangements.

*Thicker 5mm wetsuits are recommended for the in-water dives. As we spend extended time in the water, you may get cold more quickly than you’re used to.

WHAT IF BAD WEATHER CANCELS THE BOAT TRIPS?

Regretfully we are not in charge of the weather and sometimes plans do have to change. If bad weather occurs and the sightsee boat tour and the freedive boat dives are unable to go ahead as planned, firstly a re-schedule will be considered. If they are unable to go ahead at all and are cancelled by the operator, a refund less processing fee is to be provided for that portion. Refunds for the entire trip fee are regretfully unavailable and proper travel insurance cover is encouraged to cover you in the event of any unforeseen circumstances arising.  Please see the general cancellation and refund policy that follows.

Does cancellation and refund policy apply?

Freediving Instructor Course in Hobart

It was with delight that I returned to Hobart and Eaglehawk Neck to run what I think could be the first ever Freediving Instructor course in Tasmania. And in this course it was wonderful to welcome accomplished freedivers that had learned and developed locally, and certainly active and proud members of the local freediving community in Tasmania.
