Wild Brumbies, Endangered Tuna, and How Freediving Resurrects Our Oneness with Nature

In the digital age, are we losing our sense of wild in Nature, happier to immerse in the curated online consumption version? What if we went back there? Is transformation possible? What do we do when we get there? And there’s wild beasts around? Freediving has become one method of returning to Nature, perhaps even a way of resurrecting our oneness. Freediving has for me been transformative, and shared lessons about connecting with Nature that I didn’t even know I needed. The unpredictable beauty of the ocean, even of life itself. When I happened upon a herd of wild Brumbies in the Snowy Mountains, freediving took me closer than I ever thought possible.

Essence Of Brian – Nordic Ski en Omeo

There’s heritage. And then there’s heritage. Brian has both. Taking pause in the Omeo MTB Park, the jolly baby blue Peugeot 504 wreaked of adventures long faded, fresh, and new. It oozed a certain essence. The unmistakable Euro vibes of alpine cool, with a hell of a splash of understated debonair. Soon I would learn, the 504, this here, the essence of Brian.

Woebegone, There’s a Humpback Whale on the Horizon

The small motley crew of snorkellers and freedivers from Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne embark on an adventurous journey beyond Jervis Bay into the Pacific Ocean, desiring a close encounter swimming with Humpback Whales. Despite the unpredictable nature of wildlife, the thrill sends them rocking and rolling in shared anticipation and camaraderie. The experience of being at sea creates a deep connection with nature, transcending expectations and time.

Wilderness of Scene. And Mind. The Cathartic Displeasure of Effort

Why is it that effort amplifies the taste?

The sweetness of concurring that burly long climb up into the mythical mountain tops, all the while our legs tramping and persisting with the heavy load. Or immersing into the pleasure of swimming underneath the blue mystical sea, playing with the deep-DNA urge of the body compelling us to rise to the surface and breathe.

They’re not tortures of the spirit, they’re choices to embark unto a passage into the mind and body that perhaps we wouldn’t otherwise desire…

How Do You Get Warm Quickly After A Cold Water Immersion?

How Do You Get Warm Quickly After A Cold Water Immersion?
As a professional freediving instructor and breathwork coach, I find there’s plenty to be excited and interested about when it comes to cold water immersion in the sea, plunge pools, bathing in icy river streams and the rejuvenating feelings that are so effervescent after a cold water wild swim. But something that doesn’t get much talked about is, well, what do you do once you’re out of the cold water? How do you recover after a cold water immersion? And how do you warm up quickly after a cold plunge? Here’s the answer to how I get warm.

Whale Tales: Barnacle’s Kelp Karmacoma

Last year’s Humpback Whale southern migration winner, Barnacle, actually there are no ‘winners’ because there’s no prizes. But in this day and age of supporting everyone as a winner, we’re going against the grain and calling him a winner anyway. Well, because he was first.

Back to Barnacle – a seasoned migrator. He’s finished 10 of these 10,000 kilometre events in the last 10 years.
