Solomon Islands Freediving Holiday

All certified freedivers will discover the unspoilt beauty of the Solomon Islands on the 9-day freediving holiday at Munda. Munda has become known as having some of the finest diving experiences in the world today. This tour is for every freediver who wants to enjoy freediving for fun away from the dive-line. You’ll be amazed at the diversity of the sites and be comfortable, whether you’re a new freediver or a competent freediver down to 30m. On this tour you can expect to freedive around historic WWII wrecks, colourful reef playgrounds and walls that meet the beautiful big blue.

The best thing about freediving in the Solomons is that very few have had the luxury of enjoying it. With us you’ll be one of the first to enjoy a fully guided experience. With so much terrain unexplored, new sites are being discovered all the time.

The tour will be based at the Agnes Gateway Hotel and Dive Munda from where we will begin our freediving excursions. It’s an easy lifestyle and you’ll quickly embrace the daily life of a freediving adventurer. Comfortable surrounds and good food will restore your energy in preparation for the following day’s activities.

Upon landing at Munda, you’ll spend six days freediving, travelling by boat to each amazing site. As the week progresses and the nature of sites develop, your comfort and relaxation increase, so too will the available depth.

Along with incredible freediving, you’ll connect with the important military history and understand the impact of World War II during a fascinating local museum tour. Visiting the sacred Skull Island, which displays remnant human skulls, you’ll learn about the old customs from days gone by which will truly astound you.

A freediving holiday to Munda is your dream of relaxation and letting time pass without a care in the world. Accommodation and meals are included (excluding beverages), return flights (Mel/Syd/Bris), two boat dives per day for 6 days, museum and Skull Island tour, and marine park fees.

If you’ve ever wanted to escape for a pure freediving adventure for fun and leisure, there’s no better place than the Solomons.

WaterMaarq tours are boutique. Purposefully small in number with a minimum 4x guests per tour. Our tours takes you on the seas less traveled, it’s designed to help you feel like part of nature, rather than being an observer. On a guided freediving tour you can be prepared to experience an authentic natural tropical adventure.

Freediving Conditions

Solomon Islands are renowned for having some of the best diving in the world. Crystal clear water with temperatures ranging between 27-30° C, provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy every freediving excursion on tour.

We recommend at least a 2.5mm wetsuit for the tour to enjoy the best freediving experience. You certainly can enjoy freediving in swimwear, however a wetsuit prevents sun damage and keeps you diving for longer.

Visibility is excellent, consistently 20 metres if not more. Many of the reef sites begin near the surface and drop away so you can keep your depth within your limits and comfort levels. A variety of wrecks will be encountered, some begin at the surface, others lay in 10-12m depth, the deepest is reached at 27m depth. All freedivers must dive within their current certification depths.

Freediving Sites

The freediving in Munda is unbelievable. The reefs are spectacular, some dropping off to over 600 metres, with plenty of tropical and pelagic fish to distract you.

Regular sightings of Grey Reef, Black tip and White tip sharks are possible. Colourful clown fish and schools of Sergeant Major fish will delight you.

The most amazing thing about diving from Munda is the diversity of the dive sites, having wrecks, reefs and walls all in one place is a very rare thing. Not to mention the scenic beauty of the fishing villages, waterways and local people going about their business as you travel to your next site.
